The reproducibility of measuring maximum abdominal aortic aneurysm diameter from ultrasound images

چکیده

Abstract Background Accurate repeat assessment of the diameter an abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is important. This study investigated reproducibility different methods measuring AAA from ultrasound images. Methods Fifty patients were assessed by ultrasound. Maximum was measured independently three trained observers on two separate occasions using a standardised protocol. Five diameters each scan, in anterior–posterior (AP) and transverse (TV) plane, including inner-to-inner (ITI), outer-to-outer (OTO) leading edge-to-leading edge (LETLE). Intra- inter-observer reported as coefficients. Statistical comparison performed linear mixed effects models. Results Intra-observer coefficients (AP LETLE 2.2 mm; AP ITI 2.4 OTO 2.6 mm) smaller than 4.6 mm: 4.5; 4.8 mm). There no statistically significant difference intra-observer types measurements plane. Measurements obtained TV plane had worse those Conclusions suggests that maximum between images most reproducibly single observer

Ultrasound in Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm

Formation and growth of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) may lead to rupture resulting in life threatening haemorrhage. Elective treatment of asymptomatic AAA, either as open surgery or endovascular repair, is recommended when the maximum diameter of the aneurysm exceeds 50-55mm or increases rapidly (Brewster et al., 2003), whereas smaller aneurysms are recommended kept under surveillance. Risk...

Drug Therapy for Small Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm

Dear Editor,Abdominal aortic aneurysm is often asymptomatic, less recognized, and causes considerable mortality and morbidity, if missed. The incidence varies from country to country and the occurrence is influenced by modifiable (smoking, coronary heart disease, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and prolonged steroid therapy) and non-modifiable risk factors (increasing age, male gender, and positive...

Comparison of Colour Duplex Ultrasound with Computed Tomography to Measure the Maximum Abdominal Aortic Aneurysmal Diameter

Introduction. Maximum diameter of an abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is the main indication for surgery. This study compared colour duplex ultrasound (CDU) and computed tomography (CT) in assessing AAA diameter. Patients and Methods. Patients were included if they had both scans performed within 90 days. Pearson's correlation coefficient, paired t-test, and limits of agreement (LOA) were calcul...

Is ultrasound more accurate than axial computed tomography for determination of maximal abdominal aortic aneurysm diameter?

OBJECTIVE(S) Clinical assessment of maximal abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) diameter assumes clinical equivalency between ultrasound (US) and axial computed tomography (CT). Three-dimensional (3D) CT reconstruction allows for the assessment of AAA in the orthogonal plane and avoids oblique cuts due to AAA angulation. This study was undertaken to compare maximal AAA diameter by US, axial CT, and...

Geometric Predictors of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Maximum Wall Stress.

Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a dilation of the abdominal aorta (above 50 % of its original diameter), which can cause death upon rupturing. It usually grows asymptomatically leading to late clinical intervention. The medical criteria to indicate surgery are based on measuring the diameter and growth rate, but in many cases aneurysms fail at uncharacterized critical values. In search of a ...
